DUSHANBE, February 27, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- Belarus’ news agency BelaPan has ranked Tajikistan among the former Soviet republics with lowest inflation rates for January 2009.

Referring to data of national agencies for statistics, BelaPan reports that the lowest inflation rates for January 2009 were reported in Moldova, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan – 0.1, 0.3 and 0.4 percent respectively.

The highest inflation rate for January 2009 was reported in Belarus.  In Belarus, inflation for January 2009 stood at 4.1 percent.

Among the countries with high inflation rates for last month are also Ukraine (2.9 percent), Lithuania (2.7 percent), Russia (2.4 percent), and Latvia (2.2 percent).  They are followed by Georgia -- 1.4 percent, Armenia -- 1.2 percent, Kyrgyzstan -- 0.5 percent, Azerbaijan and Estonia – 0.6 percent each.
