DUSHANBE, March 2, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A plant genetics database is expected to be crated at Tajikistan’s National Center for Genetic Resources, Hofizullo Muminjonov, a chief coordinator of the Sida “Support to Seed Sector Development in the Republic of Tajikistan Project” Project, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, creation of the plant genetics database is part of the project and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has already provided building for the database in the Roudaki district. The Swedish Agency for International Development (Sida) had allocated 1 million US dollars for renovation of the building and training of personnel.
The plant genetics database is created to preserve the most valuable species of plants of Tajikistan and effectively use them in the breeding process for selection of new plant species.
In January 2009, four specialists from the National Center for Genetic Resources took training courses in Sweden, Muminjonov said.
