KHUJAND, March 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Although Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have resumed electricity supplies to Tajikistan, the electricity rationing has not yet been eased in the Sughd province.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the head of team for coordination of activities of sub-divisions of Barqi Tojik power holding in the province, Muminjon Toshmatov, said that no changes have been made so far to the schedule of electricity deliveries to northern Tajikistan.

“The province still receives some 3.8 million kWh of electricity per day, the same as it had received before,” said Toshmatov, “This amount is enough to provide three local cities, Khujand, Chkalovsk and Qairoqqum, with electricity during five hours per day.  These cities currently have 2 hours of electricity in the morning and three hours in the evening.  In the meantime, the remaining Sughd cities and districts now have electricity only three hours per day”

We will recall that Sughd’s daily requirements in electricity are 14 million kWh.  Electricity rationing introduced in the province last autumn resulted in the supply of daily electricity being reduced to four hours.  New power rationing introduced in the province in February resulted in electricity supplies decreasing to some 3 million kWh per day.
