ISFARA, April 6, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The spring conscription campaign is progressing in Sughd’s Isfara district.
According to the chief of the Isfara military registration and enlistment office, Colonel Abdusattor Rizoyev, the first 72 recruits from Isfara have been sent to serve in the country’s armed forces to this date. In all, more than 185 young men from the Isfara district are expected to be sent to serve in the national army during the spring conscription campaign.
As it had been reported earlier, the spring conscription campaign was launched in Tajikistan on April 1 and young Tajiks are drafted into the country’s armed forces from April through May 2009. The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve.
The source at the Ministry of Defense (MoD), some 15,000-16,000 men of call-up age are conscripted per year.
