KHOROG, May 6, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The highway from Khorog to Dushanbe via Kulob reopened for traffic yesterday.
Torrential rain on May 3 caused a series of mudslides that blocked some sections of the highway near the villages of Shkev, Drobak, Zing, Vishkharv, Chaparak and Kevron in GBAO’s Darvoz district.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Qurbonmamad Nekqadamaov, a traffic controller with Pomirnaqliyot (The GBAO state-controlled transportation enterprise), said, “The highway was cleared of slurry on Monday and it is now open for traffic.”
