DUSHANBE, May 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have initiated consolidation of their ruling parties.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the first deputy head of Tajik ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) Davlatali Davlatzoda said that an agreement on cooperation between the PDPT and Kyrgyzstan’s ruling party Ak Zhol was signed on sidelines of the 4th congress of Ak Zhol in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on May 10.

“The agreement is dedicated to promote expansion of cooperation between the two parties that share not only similar party interests and but also similar stances on a number of issues of interstate nature,” Davlatzoda said, noting that both parties completely supported efforts of their governments to implement hydroelectricity projects.

According to him, the PDPT and Ak Zhol will promote further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.  Davlatzoda noted that the Ak Zhol deputy head A. Arabayev had noted during the document-signing ceremony that Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan had mutual interests in many fields, especially rational use of water-and-energy resources in the region.
