DUSHANBE, May 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- In Tajikistan, gross domestic product (GDP) rose 3.5 percent in three months to March 31, 2009, according to the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics.

The highest GDP growth rate over the report period has been reported in Uzbekistan, where GDP rose 7.9 percent in three months to March 31, 2009.  Uzbekistan is followed by Moldova (7.2 percent).  In Azerbaijan, gross domestic product has risen 4.1 percent over the same three-month period, Georgia and Ukraine – 2.1 percent each, Belarus – 1.1 percent, and Kyrgyzstan – 0.2 percent.

In the meantime, in Russia, Armenia and Kazakhstan, gross domestic product has fallen over the report period – by 12.2, 6.1 and 4.5 percent respectively, the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics reported.

Over the same three-month period, industrial production volumes have fallen in all CIS states except Uzbekistan.  In Uzbekistan, industrial production volumes have increased by 9.9 percent over the report period

In Tajikistan, industrial production volumes have fallen by 8.2 percent in January-march 2009.  In Russia, industrial production volumes over the report period have fallen by 14.3 percent, Kazakhstan – 4.6 percent, Armenia – 9.5 percent, Azerbaijan – 2.2 percent, and Belarus – 4.5 percent.

The highest fall in industrial production volumes over the report period has been reported in Ukraine – 31.9 percent, which is followed by Moldova (24.2 percent).  In Kyrgyzstan, industrial production volumes have fallen by 19.5 percent in January-March this year.

An average fall industrial production volumes for the CIS over the report period has been estimated at 15 percent.
