KHUJAND, May 12, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The global financial crisis has forced some 30 percent of 232 industrial enterprises operating in the northern Sughd province to suspend their operations, according to the Sughd energy and industries directorate.
Among them are large industrial enterprises such as open joint-stock company (OJSC), Leninabad Rare Metals Plant (LRMP), OJSC Tamokhush, the Adrasman ore refinery, joint ventures Petroleum Sughd and Tameko, the Anzob ore refinery and the saltworks Koni Namak.
The enterprises suspended their operations because of landslide of prices and sharp decrease in demand for their products and major part of workers were asked to take unpaid vacations, the source said.
