KULOB, May 18, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Over the first four months of this year, 17,628,108 U.S. dollars have been remitted to banks in Khatlon’s Kulob region, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob Abdukarim Nematov said.
Besides, 214,295,802 Russian rubles (RR) have been remitted to local banks over the report period.
“Despite the four-fold increase in the volume of remittances in RR (in January-April 2008, 57 million Russian rubles were remitted to banks in Kulob), the overall volume of remittances to the region over the report period is 7 million U.S. dollars fewer compared to January-April 2008,” Nematov said.
In the meantime, remittances have increased from month to month this year. “In January, 4.313 million U.S. dollars were remitted to local banks, while in April, remittances in U.S. dollars increased $5.193 million,” said Nematov, “Remittances in Russian rubles also increased from RR35 million in January to RR65 million in April.”
