KULOB, May 21, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Farmers in five cotton-growing districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region will have to replant cotton on an area of 3,208 hectares, which is 10 percent of the overall area under cotton in region, Abdullo Rajabov, a leading specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, recent torrential rain and resulting floods have caused serious damage to agricultural fields in the region.  “The worst hit area was Vose district, where farmers have to replant cotton on the area of 1,100 hectares,” said Rajabov, “In Kulob district, farmers will have replant cotton on 650 hectares, Hamadoni – 600 hectares, Danghara – 380 hectares, and Farkhor – 368 hectares.”

In the meantime, the Kulob region has reached 81 percent of the cotton-sowing campaign target so far, having planted cotton on 27,286 hectares.
