KULOB, June 30, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- 10 families from Khatlon’s Kulob district have expressed wish to move to Khatlon’s Shahritus district, Ms. Mahfirat Karimova, the chairperson of the Kulob agency for employment, migration and social protection of the population, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, a quota of 50 families (some 300 persons) has been allotted for the city and the district of Kulob for resettlement to Shahritus.  “Medical and teachers will be provided with residential buildings, while the remaining families will be given land plots for housing,” Karimova said, noting that they agency has been engaged in voluntary resettlement of residents from Kulob to other regions of the country for already six years.

In all, 200 families from all 10 districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region are supposed to be resettled to the Shahritus district.

Since 2007, 87 families from the Kulob region have been resettled to Tursunzoda district in western Tajikistan, 52 families have moved to the Qumsangir district (Khatlon) and 94 other families have been resettled to the Nosir Khusrav district (Khatlon), Karimova said, describing the project as a n attempt to develop new lands.
