KHUJAND, July 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Labor migrants’ remittances to the northern Sughd province are continuing to decrease.

According to the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Khujand, labor migrants remitted 50.5 million U.S. dollars to banks in the province last month, which is 24.3 million dollars fewer than in June 2008.

“In May 2009, labor migrants remitted 40.6 million U.S. dollars to banks in Sughd, which is 20 million dollars fewer than in May 2008,” the source at NBT’s branch in Khujand said.

In all, labor migrants have remitted 211.9 million U.S. dollars to banks in Sughd over the first six months of this year.  In the meantime, they remitted 301.9 million dollars to local banks over the same period of last year.
