DUSHANBE, July 6, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The CIS Interstate Committee has ranked Tajikistan 2nd among the CIS states in terms of economic growth rate.
Compared to January-May 2008 Tajikistan’s economic growth for the first five months of this year has been estimated at 3.2 percent.
Over the same five-month period, the highest economic growth rate has been reported in Azerbaijan – 4.4 percent.
In Belarus, gross domestic product (GDP) has risen 1.4 percent over the report period.
In the meantime, the decline GDP has been reported in a number of CIS states over the report period: in Kyrgyzstan, GDP fell by 0.9 percent; in Kazakhstan by 5.3 percent; in Moldova by 6.9 percent, in Russia by 13.6 percent, and in Armenia by 15.7 percent.
Over the report period, an average GDP decline within the Commonwealth of Independent States has been estimated at 9 percent.
Meanwhile, Tajikistan has been ranked 5th among the CIS states in terms of decline in the industrial production.
According to the CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics, the industrial production in Tajikistan had declined 13 percent over the first five months of this year.
Only in Azerbaijan, the industrial production growth has been reported in January-May 2009 – 1.3 percent.
The worst industrial production declines have been reported in Ukraine, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan – 31.9, 25.3 and 20.2 percent respectively.
In Russia, the industrial production has declined by 15.4 percent, in Armenia by 10.5 percent, in Kazakhstan by 4.6 percent, and in Belarus by 3.4 percent.
Over the same five month period, an average industrial production decline within the CIS area has been estimated at 16 percent.
The CIS Interstate Committee for Statistics does not have economic growth and industrial production decline rates for Georgia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in its report.
