DUSHANBE, July 9, 2009, Asia-Plus -- On Thursday July 9, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met here with Mr. Michael Davenport, Director of the Russia South Caucasus and Central Asia Directorate, British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, according to the MFA information department.
In the course of the talks the two discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom, cooperation between them in the framework of the European Union new Strategy for Central Asia and the current situation in Afghanistan. Zarifi and Davenport also considered a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
They also pointed out the key role of Tajikistan in supporting reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy through implementation of regional projects for construction of highways and railroads, hydropower plants and power transmission lines.
The British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mr. Trevor Moore, also attended the meeting, the MFA information department said.
