DUSHANBE, July 20, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The upcoming working visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Tajikistan, schedule for late July, and the visit of President Emomali Rahmon to Moscow, scheduled for autumn this year, were among major topics of talks of the two leaders that was held in Moscow on July 18 on sidelines of Russia’s President Cup horse race, according to presidential press service,

During the meeting, President Rahmon expressed hope that those visits would promote further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation and help solve regional problems.

In this context, the two pointed out the significance of the upcoming meeting of the leaders of Tajikistan, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan in Dushanbe.

Rahmon and Medvedev noted that construction of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Sangtuda-1 was Russia’s largest investment project since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Tajik leader, in particular, noted that introduction of the station into operation would help reduce electricity shortages in Tajikistan during autumn-winter period.

In the course of the talks, Rahmon and Medvedev also considered the latest developments in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as some other international and regional issues being of mutual interest, the press service said.
