DUSHANBE, July 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  - In January-June 2009, Tajikistan has generated some 6 billion kWh of electricity, which 10 percent fewer compared to the same period of last year, Deputy Minister of Energy and Industries, Mahmadsharif Haqdodov, remarked at a press conference in Dushanbe on July 21.

According to him, electricity production decreases have resulted from low water levels at the reservoir powering the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS).

Over the same six-month period, Tajikistan has imported some 1.8 billion kWh of electrical power, which is 65.98 million kWh more than in the same period of last year, the deputy minister said.

“Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 667.76 million kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan for Tajik Aluminum Company (Talco), 255.6 million kWh of electricity from Uzbekistan, 88.4 million kWh of electricity from Kazakhstan and 7.8 million kWh of electricity from Kyrgyzstan,” said Haqdodov, “Besides, Barqi Tojik power holding has purchased 773.07 million kWh of electricity from the Sangtuda-1 HPS.”
