DUSHANBE, July 29, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Dushanbe today afternoon on a two-day working visit to hold bilateral talks with his Tajik counterpart and for a trilateral and quadrilateral summit involving the presidents of Pakistan and Russia, according to the MFA information department,

Afghan and Tajik leaders would discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Today, President Karzai will also attend the groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a building of the Afghan Embassy in Dushanbe.

Tomorrow, President Karzai will attend a tripartite meeting, involving the presidents of Tajikistan and Pakistan, which will be held in the Tajik governmental residency.  Russian president Dmitry Medvedev will join them Thursday afternoon.

Besides discussion on the ways and means to enhance regional cooperation in trade, energy, communication and transportation, the leaders of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Russia are expected to deliberate on the challenges facing the region including terrorism and production and trafficking of drugs and illicit weapons.
