DUSHANBE, September 10, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Dushanbe’s first independent radio station Asia-Plus broadcasting on the 107 FM frequency marked its 7th anniversary on September 10.

Radio Asia-Plus became the first private radio station to go on air in Dushanbe on September 9, 2002 after waiting for four years for a frequency license.

Ten journalists work for the radio, which runs news bulletins in Tajik and Russian alternately on the hour, and plays music from all over the world.  Radio Asia-Plus has managed to win a broad audience in a short period and has become very popular in Dushanbe and the surrounding area.

Traditionally, the radio marks its birthday on September 10 and it yesterday carried out a festive action, Seven Happy Notes, dedicated to the 18th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence and 7th anniversary of the radio.

“Various actions are an important part of our radio activity a play,” said Ms. Parvona Ahrori, the Executive Director of the Radio Asia-Plus, “They give us an opportunity to communicate with our listeners directly, you know.  Our next action is for those who know and love their city.”

Developing new proposals and actions for our listeners, we offer products that would be not only interesting and entertaining but useful as well,” Parvona Ahrori said.   

Radio Asia-Plus has organized the music award ceremony four times.  For the first time, the Asia-Radio Asia-Plus Music Award was held under name of Surudi Sol (Song of Year) in 2003.  It was held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2003.  Two other music award ceremonies under the same name were organized in 2004 and 2005.  In 2006, the music award ceremony was held under the name of Navoi Dil (Melody of Heart).

The winners of this music award were selected annually by a hit parade on Radio Asia-Plus.  The best known and favorite Tajik performers took part in the competition and listeners voted for the 15 most popular songs. This award ceremony was always recognized by spectators as one of the most outstanding shows in Tajikistan.
