KHUJAND, September 10, 2009, Asia-Plus -- As of September 1, 2009, 33,981 people were placed in jobs in northern Tajikistan, Dadojon Oripov, the head of the monitoring and employment programs department within the Sughd agency for migration and social protection of the population said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, 6,166 people have been placed in jobs through their agency while another some 15,670 people have been self-employed.
“Another 1,285 people have got jobs at construction sites and nearly 10,000 people have been placed in jobs at industrial enterprises in the province,” said Oripov, “Besides, 888 people have been employed due to reopening of working places that had previously been shut down.”
He added that 253 local employers currently offered 3,779 job vacancies at average monthly wage fluctuating from 70.00 to 300.00 somoni. “As of September 1, 2009, there were 17,442 officially registered unemployed in the province,” Oripov said.
