DUSHANBE, September 14, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The results of this year’s grain-harvesting campaign will be announced this week after all working groups of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) return from the provinces, Muhammadi Ormonov, the head of the MoA grains and industrial crops department, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, all categories of farms have produced some 700,000 tons of grains to this date. “Farmers have reported average wheat yields of 2.7 tons per hectare, while last year’s average wheat yields were only some 1.9 tons/ha,” Ormonov said.
This year, farmers have planted grains on an area of 253,800 hectares, including 124,000 hectares of irrigated lands.
We will recall that at the beginning of this year, the MoA specialists expected farmers to produce more than 1 million tons of grains this year.
