DUSHANBE, October 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- The third session of the CIS council of law enforcement authorities was held in Yalta, Ukraine on October 9.

According to Ukraine’s Customs Service, the meeting participants included deputy heads of customs services as well as chiefs of the law enforcement sub-divisions of customs services of ten CIS states, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Joint measures within the frameworks of the CIS interstate program for the fight against contraband, illicit drug trafficking, international terrorism and other manifestations of organized crimes were a major topic of the meeting.

Separate working groups for specific fulfillment of the mentioned measures were set up on sidelines of the meeting.

The meeting participants positively assessed the current level of interaction of the CIS council of law enforcement authorities with the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS coordinating agencies within the frameworks of interstate programs for combating various manifestations of organize crime and singed agreements.

They also endorsed a draft agreement on interaction and cooperation between the CIS council of law enforcement authorities and the competent drug control authorities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

The next fourth meeting of the CIS council of law enforcement authorities is scheduled to take place in Minsk, Belarus in the first half-year of 2010.
