KULOB, October 19, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A small hydropower plant has been introduced into operation in Khatlon’s Khovaling district.
According to the Khovaling district administration, the power plant has been built in the area near the tomb of Sulton Uvais Karani (phonetically spelled) and local entrepreneurs have provided 40,000 somoni for construction of the plant.
“The power plant is capable to provide 20 households with electricity,” said the source, “There are many small fleeting rivers in the district and local entrepreneurs are ready to finance construction of a cascade of small hydropower plants in Khovaling.”
In the meantime, the head of the Shabakai Barqi Kulob (Kulob power system) Mirzo Ismoilov says it is already the third small hydropower plant in the area following the Kulob and Shuroobod ones.
