DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus – There are no problems with Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan and the sides are currently discussing the issue of payment for the use of a military in Tajikistan only starting from 2014, Russian Minister Anatoly Serdyukov told reporters in Moscow on October 22.
“In our opinion, there are no any difficulties with the deployment and presence of base to this day,” Serdyukov told reporter following the negotiations between the delegations of Russia and Tajikistan.
According to Russian media, the Russian minister noted that the issue of paying for the use of the military base on the territory of Tajikistan before the expiration of the current agreement was not discussed during the negotiations.
“We considered two issues – whether the base will function in a regime, in which it functions now or it will function on the basis of payment. It is still premature to say about any specific figures. We do not yet know how to calculate them,” he said.
