DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has received a titled of Honorable Professor from M.V. Lomonosov Moscow Sate University (MSU).
On the sidelines of his state visit to Russia, President Rahmon today held meeting with staff teaching and students at Moscow State University.
According to presidential press service, addressing the meeting, Tajik leader pointed out an important role of the university in training of specialists for Tajikistan and expressed hope for further expansion of close and fruitful cooperation.
Rahmon, in particular, noted that Tajikistan was proud of opening of the branch of Moscow State University in Dushanbe.
By decision of MSU’s Academic Council President Emomali Rahmon was given a title of Honorable Professor of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University for his contributions to development of Tajik-Russian relations, including cooperation in the filed of education and science, the press service said.
M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest university in Russia. Founded in 1755, it also claims to be the oldest university in Russia and the tallest educational building in the world. As of 2004, the university has some 4,000 staff teaching, 31,000 students and 7,000 postgraduates. Its current rector is Viktor Sadovnichiy. In 1940, the university was renamed in honor of its founder, Mikhail Lomonosov.
As of September 2009, the university has 39 faculties and 14 research centers. The number of small faculties have been opened in a recent time, such as Faculty of Physics and Chemistry and Higher School of Television.
