DUSHANBE, October 30, 2009, Asia-Plus - Senior representatives from railway companies of Central Asia’s states and Russia have met in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to discuss cooperation issues.
The second meeting of heads of state-controlled railway companies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan as well as the Russian Federation was held in Tashkent on October 28.
According to press service of the Ministry of transport and Communications, the deputy head of Tajik Railways, Vladimir Sobkalov, represented Tajikistan at the meeting that discussed issues related development of railway network (construction, modernization, participation of the parties) in 2008-2009.
The meeting participants also considered plans for 2010-2011 for major international destinations, equipment rail crossings, improvement of informational-technological support to reduce the processing time of trains at all cargo transit.
The sides also discussed railway transport reform issues, formulation of common principles for setting tariffs and creation of through-tariff-based competitive conditions for increasing volumes of foreign-trade cargo shipments and international transit as well as development of production and modernization of rolling stock.
