DUSHANBE, October 20, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Speaking at a roundtable meeting entitled “Political Parties and Parliamentary Election,” the Islamic Revival Party (IPRT) leader Muhiddin Kabiri said yesterday that his party is ready for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

According to him, the results of public opinion polls conducted by a number of newspapers and websites show that the IRPT is in the second place.  “In the meantime, polls conducted by the government give another result; thereby, the government tries to depreciate rating of our party,” said Kabiri, “It is to be noted that nobody has conducted fair and unbiased public opinion polls to find out influence of political parties in the country  so far.”

Kabiri noted that his party was ready to send its observers to all polling stations across the country and send its representatives to all electoral commissions.

If the upcoming parliamentary  are not fair and transparent, the party will act within the framework of the law, the IRPT leader added.  “If we consider it necessary to hold demonstrations we will hold them,” said Kabiri, “We will use all our constitutional rights and act within the framework of law.”

He expressed hope that the elections will be fair.  “If the upcoming elections are unfair, I think it will undermine Tajikistan’s prestige on international arena,” Kabiri noted.
