KULOB, November 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Agroinvestbonk’s branch in Kulob reportedly does not have any serious problems with repayment of loans provided to local farmers  for this year’s cotton sowing and harvesting campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Sayfiddin Qadamov, the head of Agroinvestbonk’s branch in Kulob, said that the bank has provided 4.3 million somoni in loans to farming units in the Farkhor district this year.  “Farmers have already repaid 1.7 million somoni or nearly 40 percent of that amount to this day,” Qadamov said.

According to him, a 505,000 somoni credit has been given to cotton farmers in the Hamadoni district and 48.8 percent of that has already been repaid.

“The Vose and Kulob districts have repaid 10 percent of their loans each,” Qadamov said.

In all, 12.5 million somoni have been provided by Agroinvestbonk to farming units in four cotton-growing districts of Khatlon’s Kulob zone this year, which is 600,000 somoni fewer than last year.

465 farming units now function in the Kulob zone.

In the meantime, the bank has problems with repayment of last year’s cotton loan.  In 2008, Agroinvestbonk gave a 13.1 million somoni credit to cotton farmers in four districts of the Kulob zone and only 58.4 percent of that has been repaid so far.
