KULOB, November 10, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A small hydropower plant was put into operation in Khatlon’s Khovaling district at the end of last week.
According to Safarali Rajabov, chairman of the Khovaling district, the plant was built in the village of Mazori Hazrati Sulton due to funds collected by local construction company Nigini Sulaymon (King Solomon’s Ring), farming unit Mazori Hazrati Sulton, the Mazori Hazrati Sulton Historical Reserve and parishioners of local mosque.
“A total cost of the project is some 50,000 somoni,” said Rajabov, “The plant is the first of a series of small hydropower plants to be built in the district; six small hydropower plants are expected to be constructed in Khovaling.” He added that local entrepreneurs had committed to collect necessary funds for construction of the remaining five plants.
