DUSHANBE, November 25, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sharif Said today met here with Li Yue (phonetically spelled), new Counselor of the Chinese embassy in Dushanbe, according to the CCI press service.
Said and Li discussed issues related to economic and trade cooperation between the two countries as well as numerous joint investment projects having been implemented in Tajikistan with help of Chinese specialists, including construction of power grid, tunnels and roads.
Representatives of Tajik business community are participating practically in all exhibitions and fairs held by China, and Tajikistan is currently making preparations for participation in the EXPO-2010.
Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai, China and is a scheduled World Expo in the grand tradition of international fairs and expositions. The theme of the exposition will be "Better City – Better Life" and signifies Shanghai''s new status in the 21st century as a major economic and cultural center. It is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world''s fairs in terms of gross numbers. The Expo will take place from May 1-October 31, 2010.
According to the State Committee for Statistics of Tajikistan, Tajik-Chinese trade in January-October 2009 has valued at 519,430 U.S. dollars. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to China estimated at 310,191 U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from China worth 209,239 U.S. dollars. Compared to the same period of last year, Tajik-Chinese trade has decreased by 47.5 percent.
