DUSHANBE, December 9, 2009, Asia-Plus  -- Specialists from Ukrainian state-owned industrial plant Elektrotyazhmash are currently in Tajikistan to assess equipment that had been delivered to the site for construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) before the collapse of the Soviet Union already, a source at Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the Elektrotyazhmash experts will make a full inventory of the equipment that was produced by the Ukrainian plant and has been stored in warehouses for many years.  “The inventory outcomes will show which equipment has become obsolete and what we have to purchase for construction work,” the source said.

Besides, they will also enlist the services of the Ukrainian specialists to inspect the Norak HPP, he added.

In the meantime, objective.tv quoted the Elektrotyazhmash director Vitaly Cherednik as saying that the plant had started negotiations with the Tajik side on launching a joint venture in Tajikistan.  The enterprise specialists have been sent to Tajikistan to conduct preliminary negotiations on launching the joint venture and consider the opportunities of participation of Elektrotyazhmash in modernization of Tajikistan’s hydropower plants, Cherednik said.          

The Kharkov-based state-owned industrial giants, such as Turboatom   and Elektrotyazhmash   occupy 17% of the heavy power equipment construction (e.g., turbines) market worldwide.
