DUSHANBE, December 12, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan does not have the right to make those mistakes that were made during the 2005 parliamentary elections, when falsification instances were recorded, Muhiddin Kabiri, the leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“If the 2010 parliamentary elections are not fair and transparent, political parties will be dissatisfied with the elections results and the country will lose its unity; it will so happen that we ourselves will plunge the country into hazard and it will be very difficult to come out of that situation,” said Kabiri, “The president has pointed to the necessity of ensuring free and democratic elections, however, political parties have not yet received guarantees from bodies of the executive power in the provinces.”
“Local authorities are not yet ready for holding of fair and transparent elections in the country,” he stressed. “Today, because of some political circumstances Tajikistan has practically lost allies both in the region and the world. Therefore, we need harmony in society and the parliamentary elections should not violate this harmony.”
