KHUJAND, December 24, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Nine health babies have been born to HIV positive mothers in the Sughd province since the first HIV positive pregnant woman was registered in the area, Ms. Habiba Boboyeva, a nurse with the Sughd AIDS Center, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
In all, 19 HIV positive pregnant women have been registered with the Sughd AIDS Center to this day, according to her.
“Sixteen babies were born to the HIV-infected mothers,” said Boboyeva, “Three of them died and of remaining 13 babies, only one was still tested positive, while three others have not yet reached the age of 1.5 years, when they can be tested for HIV.”
