KULOB, December 31, 2009, Asia-Plus -- 107 new cases of tuberculosis have been registered in Khatlon’s Farkhor district this year, which 14 cases more than last year, Hazratqul Kavgov, the head physician of the Farkhor TB-Prevention Center, told reporters in Farkhor today.
According to him, of those newly detected sufferers 42 are labor migrants that have returned from the Russian Federation this year.
“There are no grounds to assert that these persons contracted the disease while working in Russia; however, before that they were not on our list,” Kavgov said, noting that among the newly detected TB sufferers are also two persons who were recently released from prison.
He added that local authorities had allocated 117,794 somoni to support the center. “We also hope for support from the DOTS program,” Kavgov noted.
