DUSHANBE, January 27, Asia-Plus  -- No regional or international force is able to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, only Afghan law enforcement and power-wielding structures are able to do this, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi remarked at the Regional Summit of Afghanistan’s Neighbors in Istanbul, Turkey on January 26, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The conference in Istanbul brought together neighbors of the war-ton country and observers from international organizations to discuss solution to Afghan problems.

Delivering a statement at the conference, Tajik minister noted that Tajikistan was ready to assist Afghanistan with training of personnel for its power-wielding structures.

Zarifi also stressed that the Afghan problems could not solved only through force.  It is necessary to assist Afghanistan with development of its rich natural resources, including natural-gas and oil reserves, hydropower resources and enhancement of its agrarian sector.

He noted that construction of the Dashtijum hydroelectric power plant (HPP) with rated capacity of more than 4,000 megawatt in Tajikistan could help solve the majority of economic problems facing Afghanistan.

Zarifi added that implementation of projects aimed at constructing railway links connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan and China, building a new bridge connecting Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the Kokul area in Khatlon’s Farkhor district and constructing CASA 1000 power line connecting power systems of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan could make significant contribution to stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan and reconstruction of its economy.
