DUSHANBE, February 4, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- The CIS election observation mission for the February 28 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan arrived in Dushanbe on February 3.

Muhibullo Dadajonov, an official with Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Referenda and Elections (CCER), says the formal opening of the CIS election observation is taking place in Dushanbe today.

“Members of the election observation commission will hold meetings with senior representatives from the CCER, representatives from Tajik political parties participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections and monitor preparations for elections in constituencies,” Dadajonov said, noting that observers from member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will arrive in the country I the near future.

In all, more than 540-550 international observers are expected to monitor the election process in Tajikistan, according to the CCER.
