KHUJAND, February 5, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Two suicides and three suicide attempts were registered in northern Tajikistan on February 4, according to the Sughd police directorate.
The 27-year-old woman from the Asht district, S.O., committed suicide by self-hanging and 45-year-old resident of the Qairoqqum city Valijon Oripov killed himself by jumping out of the window of his apartment on the fourth floor, the source said, noting that the causes of the suicides are under investigation.
The same day, two suicide attempts were reported in Khujand and one suicide attempt in Qairoqqum.
The 34-year-old resident of Khujand, S.T., who works with Tajrpombank’s branch in Chkalovsk, attempted to kill himself because he has a US$80,000 debt. He took a large amount of soporific pills but medical workers managed to save him.
The 27-year-old woman from Qairoqqum and 16-year-old girl from Khujand also attempted to commit suicide by taking large amount of soporifics but they were taken to hospital in time. They are currently under medical workers’ care.
