KHUJAND, February 6, 2010, Asia-Plus -- 51 candidates nominated to run for local legislature (Regional Majlis) in 25 from 70 constituencies have been registered with the Sughd regional electoral commission by Saturday afternoon, Asia-Plus has learned from the commission secretary Nabijon Poulodov.
“Of these 51 candidates, 31 are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PRPDT), 8 are from the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), 7 are from the Communist party (CPT) and one is member of the Agrarian Party (APT),” said Poulodov, “Besides, four self-propelled candidates have been registered.”
Of those 51 registered candidates only five are women. The Sughd regional legislature has 70 seats.
