DUSHANBE, February 17, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- 40 Afghan police officers arrived in Dushanbe yesterday to take four-week training on drug fighting process that has been launched today.

20 of them are taking the training at the Police Academy and 20 others are taking the training at the Drug Control Agency.

The source at the Police Academy said, “The project is part of the OSCE program, Politico-Military Aspects and Police Activity, and aimed at promoting development of skills of Afghan police officers in the field of combating drug trafficking.”

Implementation of this project is coordinated by the OSCE Secretariat strategic police matters unit in Vienna.  The project is being implemented with support from the OSCE office in Tajikistan and the ministries of interior of Tajikistan and Afghanistan as well as Tajik counternarcotics agency participate in the project as governmental partner agencies.

The training is being conducted by a group of teachers from Police Academy and Tajik National University in the “training for trainer” format.
