DUSHANBE, February 25, 2010, Asia-Plus -- More than 85 percent farmland allocated to cotton has already been plowed and made ready for sowing campaign, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
The source at a MoA says that 170,408 hectares have been allocated to cotton this year and 144,994 hectares have been plowed to this day.
“Farmers in the Sughd province have completed plowing operations fully,” the source said, noting that Hissar, Vahdat and Shahrinav districts in central Tajikistan have also completed the plowing operations.
In all, 644,000 hectares have been allocated to various agricultural crops this year and 73.7 percent of them (474,500 hectares) have already been plowed.
