DUSHANBE, February 26, 2010, Asia-Plus -- To support construction of the Roghun HPP representatives from the education sector in Khatlon’s Qumsangir district reportedly bought shares in open joint-stock company (OJSC) NBO Roghun for 75,000 somoni (TJS) on February 25 alone.
The source at the Ministry of Education (MoE) told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon that Minister of Education Abdujabbor Rahmonov visited the Qumsangir district on February 25. During a meeting with representatives from local education sector, the minister call on them to support construction of the Roghun HPP. The same day, employees of the Qumsangir education sector bought shares in Roghun for a total of 75,000 somoni, the source said.
We will recall that the government has collected 732.5 million somoni (equivalent to some 168 million U.S. dollars) for construction of the Roghun HPP by February 20, 2010.
To raise funds to complete construction of the Roghun HPP the government started to sell shares in Roghun to people on January 6 this year. Tajikistan has issued 6 billion somoni (US$1.37 billion) worth of Roghun shares.
