DUSHANBE, March 2, 2010, Asia-Plus -- A large amount of heroin has been seized in the northern Sughd province.
According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), an operation carried out by local police on March 1 led to the arrest of resident of Sughd’s Istaravshan district, R.H., on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing. 8.72 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.
The same day, resident of Khatlon’s Hamadoni district, A.J., was detained in the Vose district, Khatlon province. 1.3 kilograms of marijuana were confiscated from him.
Over the first two months of this year, Tajik police have seized some 475 kilograms of narcotics, with 70.5 kilograms of them being heroin.
