DUSHANBE, March 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- Following the lead of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT) also intends to withdraw from the Public Council as a token of protest against the official results of the past parliamentary elections.

DPT leader Masoud Sobirov told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon that they consider it useless to remain a member of the Public Council.  “The party board today officially submitted complaints over the election results to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), requesting to review the results of the past elections,” Sobirov said, noting that the elections were unfair and did not meet international standards.

“If the CCER ignores our complaints, the party will file a lawsuit against it,” DPT leader noted.

We will recall that IRPT leader stated at a meeting of IRPT’s board today morning that IRPT has decided to withdraw from the Public Council of Tajikistan as a token of protest against the official results of the February 28 parliamentary elections in the country.
