DUSHANBE, March 4, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan organizes a contest among young women, entitled “Guli Umed” (Flower of Hope), on the occasion of Mother’s Day, which is marked in Tajikistan on March 8.
Female students from Dushanbe’s universities are participating in the contest, the source said, noting that cultural program and the contest itself will take place at the Orieno Center in Dushanbe on March 5.
We will recall that by president’s decree of March 6, 2009 women’s holiday is now known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother.
Congratulating Tajik women on the occasion of International Women’s Day last year, President Emomali Rahmon said that International Women''s Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, while ancient Aryans -- the ancestors of the Tajiks -- had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.
