DUSHANBE, March 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- A 10-year-year boy has accidentally killed a boy about the same age from hunting gun in the Roudaki district, some 17 kilometers south of Dushanbe.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the tragedy took place yesterday.  “The 10-year-old Yusufjon Ahmadov and the 11-year-old Ahmadjon Qayumov were playing in the roof space of the house,” said the source at a MoI, “Yusufjon found the hunting gun IZH K-16 there and accidentally shot Ahmadjon, who died on the spot.”

Local prosecutor’s office has instituted criminal proceedings and an investigation is under way.

In the meantime, confiscation of the illegally possessed weapons from the population is going on in the country.

Yesterday alone, six magazines for assault rifle Kalashnikov, three smoke bombs, 4 bullets of large-caliber machine gun, 79 bullets and two cartridge belts of 7.62 mm machine gun Kalashnikov, one cartridge of 12.7 heavy machine gun DShK and one shell of under-barrel grenade launcher were handed over to police departments in Dushanbe and three hunting guns IZH K-16 were handed over to local police departments in Sughd province.

Besides, police officers confiscated two disposable grenade launchers Mukha, two assault rifles Kalashnikov, one Margolin pistol, three hand grenades and a large number of bullets of different caliber yesterday.

Since the beginning of this year, Tajik police have confiscated 373 firearms, including 86 assault rifles Kalashnikov, 43 pistols, 87 rifles, 41 grenade launchers and other weapons, the source said.
