KHOROG, April 3, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The Shugnan district in Gorno Badakhshan has fulfilled its spring conscription target in two days, Asia-Plus has learned from Behzod Saidibroimov, the deputy chief of the GBAO military registration and enlistment office.
“Although a conscription quota for the region has been increased, we are sure we will full the spring conscription target in proper time,” Saidibroimov said.
As it had been reported earlier, President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree on the spring conscription campaign in Tajikistan on March 9. The same decree provides for the retirement from active duty of soldiers and sergeants whose service under conscription is over.
Young Tajiks are drafted into the country’s armed forces from April through May 2010. The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve.
