KHUJAND, April 6, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Remittances to banks in Sughd province have reportedly increased.
According to the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Khujand, physical entities, mostly labor migrants working in the Russian Federation, have remitted 101.7 million U.S. dollars to local banks over the first three months of this year, which is 15.4 million U.S. dollars, or 17.8 percent, more than in January-March 2009.
“In March 2010 alone, 41.3 million U.S. dollars were remitted to banks in the province, which was 30.5 million U.S. dollars, or 35.4 percent, more than in February 2009, and 10 million U.S. dollars, or 31.4 percent, more than in February 2010,” the source said.
