DUSHANBE, April 12, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali and visiting head of India’s Gauf (phonetically spelled) Asia LTD Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal signed two memoranda of understanding in Dushanbe on April 12, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).
Ms. Tojinisso Azizova, a spokeswoman for a MoEI, says, “One of the documents provides for cooperation on construction of small hydropower plants with capacities, ranging from of 130 to 620 megawatts, in Tajikistan and the second one is on cooperation in the field of light and chemical industries.”
According to her, the Gauf Asia LTD head expressed interest in construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants in Tajikistan.
Besides, the Indian company hopes to participate in the light industry development projects in Tajikistan. “Gauf Asia LTD is interested in cooperating with Tajik open joint-stock company (OJSC) Tajikkhimprom (chemical plant in the Yovon district, Khatlon),” Azizova said.
For his part, the Tajik minister of energy and industries noted that Tajikistan has had positive experience of cooperation with Indian companies on construction of small hydropower plants in Tajikistan, the spokeswoman said.
