KHUJAND, April 23, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- Public transport fares have risen in Sughd province since April 23.

Ghayrat Dadaboyev, the head of the traffic department of the Association for Public Conveyance by Motor Transport in Sughd, told Asia-Plus the fares were raised in line with a resolution passed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications on February 4, 2001.

Fare for fixed-route taxis running on gasoline or liquefied gas has risen nearly 42 percent – from 70 dirams (0.7 somoni) to 1.00 somoni, while fare for fixed route taxis running on natural gas has been raised from 60 dirams to 80 dirams (33 percent increase).

Fares for interurban passenger transport have also been raised.  Thus, fare for minivan running between Khujand and Konibodom has been raised from 4.75 somoni to 5.30 somoni and fares for interurban buses from Khujand to Zarfarobod and Istaravshan have been raised by 10-15 dirams.

New fares for interurban passenger transport have been set without taking into consideration the introduction of the mechanism of road toll management for the Dushanbe-Khujand-Cahnak highway, and therefore, they will probably be reviewed, Dadaboyev added.
