KHUJAND, April 26, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Compared to January-March 2009 the number of registered suicide and suicide attempt cases over the first three months of this year has increased by 35 percent in Sughd province, according to the Sughd police directorate.
Over the report period, 53 suicides and 32 suicide attempts have been registered in the area, which is 22 cases more than in the same period last year, the source said.
Of those having committed or attempted suicide over the same three-month period, 47 are men, 38 are women and 15 are minors.
The listed causes of suicide were mental disease (15), family problems (17), economic problems 11 and other problem (22), the source added.
In January-March 2009, 63 suicide and suicide attempt cases were registered in the province.
