DUSHANBE, April 28, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi who is currently on an official visit to China yesterday met in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and China both in bilateral and multilateral formats, including cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).  Zarifi and Yang also considered issues related to the process of implementation of joint economic development projects and ways of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

They also discussed the process of preparations for the upcoming meetings of foreign ministers and heads of state of the SCO member nations.

The meeting resulted in signing of a number of documents, including the program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

Yesterday, Zarifi also held talks with Mr. Gao Hucheng, Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce.  The sides gave the thumbs up to dynamically developing trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and China and stressed that Tajik-Chinese trade last year reached 1 billion U.S. dollars despite the global financial and economic crisis, the source said.
